Jo Talley Cooper & Debra Stevens Pt. 1
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
The brutal murders of two women in neighboring towns in 1987 could not have been more similar... So why were police inclined to believe that they could not be connected? Was it poor evidence collection, a mistake at the time of crime scene processing, or just bad luck using 1987 technology? Jo Talley Cooper and Debra Stevens were both beautiful, vibrant women and mothers whose lives were cut far too short. Their murders would go unsolved for too long and cause their loved ones to wonder "What the hell happened?"
Join us as we walk through the details of the crime and how these cases went cold until new DNA technology helped to break the case. This is episode 1 of 2.

Who would kill a beloved teacher? We're so used to many crimes being solved because of predictable things like "the husband did it" "the local sex offender has to be guilty" etc., but the truly random crimes where the murderer is not connected to the victim in any way are just mind boggling. What was the motivation? Was he in the wrong place at the wrong time? Are any of us ever safe doing mundane things during our daily errands?
Random crimes like these bring so much anxiety because of the unknown. Stay safe out there!

**If you are curious about how you can help solve cold cases, Like Amber's, by simply swabbing your mouth and submitting DNA samples... please check out what Othram is doing with crowd source funding, open source DNA sequencing, and more nerdy stuff here: https://dnasolves.com
Amber Renee Barker was a sweet, precocious little girl who loved to play with animals and ride her bike. She loved all the things that little girls at the age of 10 love...
On December 18, 1997, she disappeared while riding her bike home from her friend's house less than a mile from her own home. While her bike and other belongings of Amber's would be found soon after her disappearance, Amber herself has never been located.
We're sorry to say that this one has no resolution and no updates from police via the media since about 2015. Where is Amber? Who took her from her family? Why?
